Lady Liberty’s original name is
Liberty
Enlightening the World

The original name, suggests a dynamic process – going on now,

and continuing into the future. It is a light shining on a future ideal, one that has yet to be achieved but will be endlessly striven for: a world in which liberty exists for all people.

Broken shackles lying at Lady Liberty’s feet signify liberation from oppression and tyranny. The seven spikes in the crown represent the seven seas and seven continents, the torch signifies enlightenment. The tablet in her hand shows the date of the nation's birth July 4, 1776.

Emma Lazarus sonnet captured the essence of America, she gave Lady Liberty a heart.
